September 11th 2024: Lecture by Robert Bell at the University Women's Club 18.00 for 18.30

‘Tribal Miniatures…..Small can be beautiful!’

This event will be a review of smaller woven items from the Bell collection as well as others. It will include works by the Afshar, the Baluch, the Qashqai, the Shahsavan and others. These tribes often made smaller weavings for their daily life needs including satchels, salt bags, sofreh, utensil pouches and so on.

Robert Bell will bring with him a couple of smaller physical samples for a show & tell. Members are encouraged to bring their own items for discussion.

Robert (‘Bob’) Bell and his wife Patty have been collecting and decorating their homes for over 40 years. He is a familiar figure on the rug scene across North America, Europe and the Middle East, known for his passionate appreciation of rugs and textiles, and his very large and eclectic collection of items stretching from Europe to East Asia. Rugs have always been a part of his life. He was President of the Oriental Rug Society in Canada between 1998 and 2004.
