In February 2019 Professor Benjamin gave a talk to the Society on his collections, in which he revealed the remarkable range of designs and delightful use of colour used in their weavings by nomadic tribal and village groups in the Fars and Kerman provinces of South-West Persia. This has continued to stimulate his interest and what he has described as ‘somewhat obsessive’ collecting over the last 25 years.
This visit is an opportunity for ORTS members to see some of that fascinating collection.
Members might also like to refer to Professor Benjamin’s recent article ‘The same but different?’ published in Hali issue 204, Summer 2020, pages 64-73.
