Myriem Naji will lecture on MOROCCAN CARPETS

Myriem will present an overview of Moroccan carpets with a specific focus on the Sirwa region in Southern Morocco.

Myriem Naji is an anthropologist who conducted ethnographic fieldwork with carpet weavers in southern Morocco. She received her PhD from University College London in 2008 and curated an acclaimed exhibition on Sirwa Weavers at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS in 2011.

16th May: Pitt Rivers Museum with curator Julia Nicholson. Ashmolean Museum May Beattie Carpet Study Centre and Textile Gallery with Ancient Egyptian Fragments. Rug Gallery of Christopher and Angela Legge with a talk on Tribal Weavings. Night in Cotswolds at Lechlade-on-Thames.

17th May: Kelmscott Manor, the Tudor country home of William Morris. Cotswold Woollen Weavers. The Rug and Textile Gallery of Antony Hazledine.

The Oriental Rug and Textile Society now meets at: St James Piccadilly Conference Room, 197 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LL. If you stand on Piccadilly facing the courtyard of St James Church, go down the passageway “Church Place”, on the left hand side of the redbrick administrative buildings. The conference room entrance is in Church Place which runs between Jermyn Street and Piccadilly. There is a wrought iron gate signed “Church Hall Conference Room”. Doors open from 6.0pm. Drinks and snacks are served.

Piccadilly Circus tube is 5 mins walk, and Green Park Tube is 8 mins walk. Free parking in St James Square after 6.30pm.

Non-members welcome to attend £7 a lecture, or £20 for membership with one year of 11 events.
