'Tribal Rugs: Treasures of the Black Tent'

We are extremely grateful to Brian MacDonald who has rearranged his affairs to be able to speak to us, as Arash Karamzadeh had unforeseen family circumstances.

Brian will lecture on 'Tribal Rugs: Treasures of the Black Tent', which is the title of his book. He will show slides, and bring rugs and bags to show us.

AGM followed by Show and Tell

...with Ron Stewart and Clive Rogers. Do bring your rugs and textiles to show us.

Wednesday, June 20th at 7pm

The Oriental Carpet Manufacturers – the early days’.

Antony Wynn author of ‘Three Camels to Smyrna’ will talk about the founding of the OCM in Turkey in 1908, and the early days in Iran, up to the end of the Great War, telling the story of this iconic global carpet trade in the 20th Century, as well as discussing the political and economic events that affected the carpet trade in those turbulent years.

We could proceed to India, Afghanistan, Tibet and Nepal if time during questions!

ORTS Summer Lunch Party

To be held in Dimity Spiller’s house in Kensington, by kind invitation.

Dimity will show us her early 20th Century Chinese robes. Also Rupert Smith will lend his Tibetan cut 19th century Chinese robes and some fragments of Ming textiles for us to see. See separate flyer.

The Society meets at Swedenborg Hall, 20/21 Bloomsbury Way, London, WC1A 2TH. Entrance round the corner in Barter Street. Doors open from 6pm. Swedenborg Hall is four minutes walk from Holborn Underground, and six minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road Underground. Free parking in Barter Street or Bedford Place after 6:30pm.

Drinks and snacks are served, and we have a T-loop induction coil for hearing-aid users.
