Summer Programme for April - July 2010

Wednesday 28th April at 7pm in the Swedenborg Hall

“An Introduction to Susanis, New and Antique” by Markus Voigt

“An Introduction to Susanis, New and Antique” by Markus Voigt, esteemed German Rug and Textile Dealer who has relocated to London. He will give a powerpoint presentation, and bring examples to show us, of these wonderful flower covered embroideries from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Do bring your own susanis for discussion.

Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25th and 26th.

Trip to Long Melford and Cambridge.

Sara Barber’s Persian Rug Studio, with a talk on conservation and Kentwell Hall with a talk on Tudor style Embroidery both at Long Melford.

Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge to view a Chinese and Japanese selection from their Oriental Textile Study Collection with curator Carol Humhprey.

ORTS Summer Lunch Party

To be held by kind invitation of Margaret Broadbent, at her home in S.E. London. We will have a chance to see her collection of Animal Decorations from the Middle East, India and Pakistan, first shown in 1982 at the Commonwealth Institute in London.

The Society meets at: Swedenborg Hall, 20/21 Bloomsbury Way, London WC1A 2TH. Drinks and snacks are served, and we now have a T-loop induction coil for hearing-aid users. Details of how to become a member can be found here. Non-members are welcome to attend for £6 a lecture including drinks and snacks.
