Spring Programme for January - March 2011

Thursday January 27th at 7pm in the Swedenborg Hall

Dr Stephanie Bunn will give a powerpoint presentation and talk about “Central Asian Nomadic Felt”

She will bring examples to show us. Stephanie is a lecturer at St Andrew’s University in the Social Anthropology Department. Her book “Nomadic Felt” has just been published by the British Museum Press.

Tuesday February 15th at 2.30pm in the Swedenborg Hall

Rosemary Crill will show us examples of “Indian Woven Textiles” from the Collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

She says “This would allow a good spread of regional types, as well as a range from the most lavish to simple Tribal Weaving.” Rosemary is Senior Curator for South Asia, in the Asian Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum. See separate flyer.

Wednesday March 23rd at 7pm in the Swedenborg Hall

Markus Voigt will talk to us on “Unlikely Siblings? Tibetan and East Turkestan Carpets and Rugs”

He will show slides and bring examples for us to see. Markus is a well known German Dealer, and Author for Hali.

The Society meets at: Swedenborg Hall, 20/21 Bloomsbury Way, London WC1A 2TH. Drinks and snacks are served, and we now have a T-loop induction coil for hearing-aid users. Details of how to become a member can be found here. Non-members are welcome to attend for £6 a lecture including drinks and snacks.
